Ingredients

  • 4 cups cooked shredded chicken
  • 1 can condensed cream of chicken soup 10.5 ounces
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 sleeve buttery round crackers about 30 crackers, coarsely crushed
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley chopped, optional

Equipment

  • 9-by-13-inch baking dish
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Measuring spoons
  • Rubber spatula

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
  2. Stir the cream of chicken soup, sour cream, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper together until smooth.
  3. Fold in the shredded chicken, then spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  4. Sprinkle the cheddar cheese over the filling.
  5. Toss the crushed crackers with the melted butter and sprinkle them evenly over the casserole.
  6. Bake uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes, until bubbling and golden. Rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use moist shredded chicken for the best texture.
  • Keep the casserole uncovered so the cracker topping stays crisp.
  • For make-ahead preparation, refrigerate the filling without the topping and add fresh buttered crumbs before baking.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to four days.
